Established in the office of MP Sam Tarry in March 2020, just as the pandemic hit the country and lockdown was announced, Genevieve, Habiba, Tanya and Irfan teamed up and set up a foodbank. The foodbank at its peak was serving nearly 200 households (up to 500 people) on a weekly basis with the support of its volunteer workforce. The first of the sites established was in Woodford (Ray Lodge). A huge support from various people in Woodford meeting weekly created the community hub that would serve a large number of residents in the area. Frenford established itself as a food bank site a few months later with the support of Sadia, Neal and Daniel and the support from local residents, young people and community groups. Financially supported by donations from the public, grants from the Government via local authority and The London Community Foundation. Food is donated by the good will of the communities across Redbridge and significantly from Woodford via the 36th E.F.S. Sea Scout Group. Today with an enormous support from kind and caring volunteers who drive parcels to homes, call clients and pack food parcels. The aim of the food bank is to support the most vulnerable in our society with the growing numbers struggling through low income, loss of jobs, universal credit, homelessness, domestic violence survivors, refugees and those here on asylum. 100% of all donations goes to buying food and toiletries, this program is 100% voluntary so please do donate using the donate button above and anyone who wishes to come and see the operation is welcome.
